Lesley Davison, unveiling of first MosaicGloucester panel with Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken.

About

MosaicGloucester is a community mosaic mural, being created in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The work consists of a series of panels, each measuring approximately 8’x4’. The images on the panels were made by MosaicGloucester’s creative director and designer Lesley Davison, illustrating selected stories from interviews with locals. Davison has worked with Gloucester citizens to make make tiles included in the project, holding workshops at City Hall, Maritime Gloucester, St. Peter’s Fiesta, the Fishermen’s Wives Sea-to-Supper dinner, Gloucester High School, Art Haven, and other locations across the city.

As a mosaic is made by many tiles working together to create a larger image, MosaicGloucester was made possible by a multitude of donors: The Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation, and many individual donors have helped out financially to help fund this project. Americold Gloucester is generously providing the wall at 69 Rogers Street in Gloucester, as well as donating financially. MosaicGloucester received a matching grant from Patronicity, a crowdgranting challenge through MassDevelopment. seARTS is a not-for-profit organization that helps MosaicGloucester manage the project.

If you’re interested in participating in the project, by sharing your stories, by hosting a tile-making event, or by making a donation, please contact mosaicgloucester@gmail.com
